Valdez Family Visit to the Hogar Jun-Jul 2010

Elsa & Elias visited the Hogar de Ninas Hijas de la Altagracia, as part of their trip to see their family members in the Dominican Republic. They enjoyed inmensely sharing time with the religious sisters and some of the remaining girls, since most of them had already left for vacation. Here are the highlights (click on each picture to enlarge):

On Sunday, June 27th, we joined Sor Margarita, Sor Isaskia, Sor Iris,  and the remaining girls, to attend mass at “Nuestra Senora de Regla” Cathedral in Bani.
We didn’t have any trouble fitting in the new van, driven by Don Dario, the trusted chauffeur for the Hogar.
We all enjoyed a succulent chicken dinner at “Pollo Rey”.
On Tuesday, June 29th, we visited the Hogar during their lunch time. We were treated to a nice lunch with the sisters, and after a short “siesta”…

It was time to load the van again and head for the beach!
The girls definitely enjoyed the warm waters of Salinas Beach.
Our 2nd visit to the Hogar, Wednesday, June 30th, when we got to spend time with the girls in their own home.
Sor Iris reviewing the grades received by some of the girls. She is managing the Hogar while Sor Margarita and Sor Isaskia attend an extended retreat and Congregation meeting.
Marie Rubi proudly showing me her grades from Pre-Primary (she is 5 years old).
Dolly doing Ana Rosa’s hair. That’s quite a task, considering how “demanding” Ana Rosa can be…
The girls got quite attached to Elsa.
Elsa with Dary, the Novice helping Sor Iris during the absence of Sor Margarita and Sor Isaskia. She is holding Ana Rosa, the latest addition to the Hogar.
Arturo, Elsa’s brother-in-law, installed 2 ceiling fans previously donated by someone in Orlando. I held the ladder…

Morning of Prayer Mar 13, 2010

Members of the Administrative Circle of the Immaculate Conception Foundation held their periodic Morning of Prayer on March 13, 2010, at the Valdez’s home in Merritt Island. The Morning of Prayer is an essential part of our mission:

The Immaculate Conception Foundation is a spiritual network of individuals seeking to live the contemplative dimension of the gospel, serving at the same time the orphan and needy children and their respective communities.

This activity is our way to dedicate a specific timeframe for our spiritual growth, separate from our regular business meetings. It included individual statements from each participant, reading of the scriptures, reading of the foundation’s mission /vision, periods of centering prayer, and viewing of a video on Contemplative Prayer.  The morning of prayer was followed by a very tasty lunch, in an atmosphere of friendship and camaraderie. All in all, it was a very fruitful day!

6 Boxes Shipped on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010

Thanks to the generosity of our many donors, we were able to fill-up 6 boxes with donated clothing items, for distribution to needy people in the Dominican Republic. We are counting on our religious sisters at the Hogar de Ninas Hijas de la Altagracia to distribute these donations within the organizations they support, including needy Haitian families in the community.

Special thanks to Mercedes & Enrique for offering their garage as a “packing area”, complete with hot chocolate (it was 41 degrees when we started)  and musical entertainment to make the job more enjoyable, for helping with the transportation of the boxes to Martinez Cargo Express (for final shipment to the Dominican Republic), and for financing all shipping charges. God bless you for your generosity and jovial hospitality!

THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION FOUNDATION GREATLY APPRECIATES THE COOPERATION WE CONTINUE TO RECEIVE FROM THE OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES OF MARTINEZ CARGO EXPRESS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR HELPING US WITH OUR MISSION IN THE HOGAR DE NINAS HIJAS DE LA ALTAGRACIA. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
